  NYSCA Panelists

Each fiscal year, the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) accepts grant applications from non-profit organizations to contract for funding for particular arts, culture or heritage projects or programs. All applications are reviewed by staff and advisory panels and, after the review process is complete and the Council has voted to accept grant recommendations, NYSCA awards cultural services contracts to successful applicants.

NYSCA selects members of the advisory panels from a list of nominees. Each year, NYSCA solicits nominations from NYSCA staff, Council members, current panelists, current grantees, and the general public.

The advisory panels evaluate and rate each grant application according to the Council’s three primary rating criteria:

  • Artistic/Programmatic excellence
  • Managerial/Fiscal competence
  • Service to the Public

The Council seeks a diverse group of professionals with a range of expertise from all across the state to fulfill the advisory panelist role.

Term: April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018
Members may be reappointed by the chairman with the approval of the Council for a term of up to three years. In general, a panelist serving three consecutive years will not be reappointed.

Payment: Panelists are paid $200 per full-day panel meeting and $100 per half-day panel meeting. Expenses for travel, lodging and meals are reimbursable according to the U.S. General Services Administration’s per diem schedule.

Location of Panel Meetings: Manhattan, New York

Selection Process and Requirements

Nominations are now being accepted for advisory panelists. Self-nominations are permitted. All panelists must be New York State residents for the duration of their service period. Advisory panelists will be chosen by the NYSCA chairman with the approval of the Council.

Advisory panelists are required to act with utmost impartiality with respect to the evaluation and rating of applications and to protect panel deliberations from any potential conflict of interest or the appearance of such a conflict. Panelists will be required to acknowledge any affiliations with organizations making applications to the Council and must comply with New York State Ethics Laws.

To make a nomination, submit a completed Nomination Form and the nominee’s resume to NYSCA by mail or email at the addresses listed below by the due date.
