  Services to the Field

Registration deadline: January 22, 2010
Application deadline: February 17, 2010

Services to the Field offers support to organizations for projects that provide managerial, artistic, or information services to individual writers and/or literary organizations. These services may include professional development, administrative support, shared informational resources such as database compilations, projects that utilize technology, and field-wide initiatives beyond the scope of an organization's core activities. Applicants must have paid project staff.


Application Instructions

The on-line application form includes the following questions, and a project budget. Required support materials are listed below.

New applicants to this category are strongly advised to consult with Program staff well before the January 22, 2010 registration date.


Application Narrative Questions

Artistic/Programmatic

1. Program Summary
A) Briefly describe the service and how it relates to other programs in your organization. B) And, where relevant, describe how it distinguishes itself from comparable programs. 

Managerial/Fiscal

2. Project Staff
A) Describe the staff, advisors and consultants providing the service, summarizing their credentials and roles. B) If selection of project personnel is pending, describe the qualifications of individuals being sought.

3. Finances
Describe plans, projects, and activities to meet the expenses of the proposed program.

Service to the Public

4. Audience
A) Describe the audience for this service, in terms of target population, volume and level of use. B) Summarize the selection process, if one is required for participation in the project. C) Note whether participants are required to join your organization in order to receive services, and the cost of membership.

5. Delivery
A) Describe the organization's technical, administrative, and information capacity to deliver the service. B) If a website, listserv, or other electronic medium is involved, how will it support the service(s) and how will it be maintained?

6. Marketing
How is your organization marketing this service?

7. Evaluation
A) Describe your methods for on-going assessment and evaluation. B) If the proposed project is a one-time event, what are your intended outcomes and how will they be assessed? C) And, where relevant, describe how it distinguishes itself from comparable programs.

Other

8. Fieldwide Issues/Technical Assistance
A) What do you see as the principal issues and opportunities facing the field of literature and literary artists at present? B) Beyond its grant-making activities and current technical assistance programs (see Technical Assistance) how might NYSCA assist the field in addressing these?


Support Materials

Support material must be postmarked, e-mailed or hand-delivered to the Program by the application deadline. If you want support materials returned, provide a self-addressed stamped envelope.

1. Sample brochures or publications (3 copies per item)

2. Sample questionnaires, in-take forms or evaluations of the services (3 copies)

3. Resumé of Project Director (3 copies)
